| Customer Reviews: Review edit: good for runs up to 13 miles January 27, 2010 J. Chan (Oakland, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Below is my original review. I still really like these socks, but they gave me problems when I ran longer distances of 15+ miles. I think it's the materiaL--when I take steps, the sock eventually pulls my curling toes downward, causing it to strike the cushion of my shoe. This led to toenail pain and me hobbling around for a few days after a long run. Maybe it's just the way my toes are always at a slight bend, but for longer distances, I've switched to socks of other materials.

Old review:
I switched running shoes after being faithful to one product line for years, I have a slight pronation with one foot and bought a shoe to deal with that. But then my new shoes disagreed with my old cotton socks, they would pull the back of the socks down and cause all sorts of discomfort.
Okay, off to the online-reviews I went. I'm preparing for a marathon and this sock was highly recommended by other distance runners. Second thing I noticed was how the wool is thicker on the bottom than the top (first thing I noticed was the material is a tinge off-white just like in the photo [I thought it was bad lighting]). The socks were very comfortable, not overly-cushy, good rise to the cuff--not too high, not too low.
I went running one night for 13.2 miles (21.24 km) in the cold where it eventually rained while wearing the Darn Tough Merino Wools. When I got home, I took off my shoes and was only then reminded I was wearing my new socks--I had completely forgot to think about them while running. That's a good thing! Socks are not supposed to announce their presence--when I have to think about my socks, it's usually wet or bunching up; these socks did so well, I didn't have to think about them at all.
I thought this would be a long experiment of trying out a lot of different socks, but I'm settled, I'm buying 3 more pairs tonight.
BEST SOCKS EVER January 15, 2010 Roderic Rinehart (Heart of Rural Indiana) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I will NEVER EVER buy another sock other than Darn Tough.
For all-weather, its Merino Wool 1/4 Sock Cushion in White, Grey, Denim, and Brown.
For winter, its Merino Wool Boot Sock Cushion in any color.
For summer, its Merino Wool 1/4 Sock Mesh in White, Grey, Denim, and Brown.
What you pay for is a sock that fits your foot exactly, does not ride up or down, does not bunch up, is warm and cushioned, and looks nice.
In the long run, you will PAY LESS BUYING GOOD SOCKS LIKE THESE.
