I purchased this item new and when I received it the top was loose which seems dangerous as it has petrol which is ignited as the source of heat. When I commented on this to the supplier he advised me to use pliers to squeeze the top to make it tighter which did not seem very good to me for a new item
I consider that exciting products are not very good and will not use them again.

When I received the product, operating instructions indicated that a cigar lighter was needed - "no blue flame" - because traditional lighters can burn out the heating element. after considerable searching, I found a lighter (expensive, too); however, the hand warmer is very difficult to light. And it tends to "flame" for no apparent reason, which leads me to conclude that the heating element has burned out. Both of my hand warmers have stopped working after only 3 - 4 uses.The manufacturers should market an appropriate lighter along with the hand warmer, and make it clear that a specialized lighter is needed.

When my wife saw these Platinum Catalyst Flameless Metal Hand Warmer on Amazon, [ASIN:B000CGG5EC Platinum Catalyst Flameless Metal Hand Warmer] she suggested I buy it because it looked like a good deal She ordered first one, then when I had used it for a few days, I decided to have her order the second one. It is so good not to have cold hands when I am outside working. My hands were always cold, and I would have to stop to go inside to warm them. Now, I have warm hands and can stay outside for as long as I want--working, walking, or snow blowing. I have asked her to do this review because I cannot type or use the computer very well, but I will buy more of these for my sons. Arian E. Neville

this thing is awesome. always been curious about these flameless hand warmers so i gave it a shot and was very surprised. really does stay warm for close to 24 hours!works better in a pocket though. get one for each hand so you dont have to keep switching.in other words everything in the item description is 100% accurate....by warm i mean very warm!

My husband, a Scoutmaster of 25 years, requested a different brand of handwarmer for Christmas this year, but after doing lots of research and reading reviews, I chose a pair of the Platinum Catalyst Flameless Metal Hand Warmers. And, he loses them!
After reading the included instructions, he immediately measured the fuel, which I picked up at the local grocery story, into a syringe from our medicine cabinet, lit them with ease, and passed them around the family throughout Christmas day. Everyone was a amazed and fascinated about how cleverly they worked and by the length of time they stayed warm.
The real test came, however, when he filled them up before going on a cold Nebraska 2-night campout with his Boy Scout Troop the last weekend of January. With extra fuel and the syring, he was off. Standing and walking around all day on Saturday as the Scouts participated in their Klondike Derby events, my husband's fingers stayed comfortably warm with these practical hand warmers in each pocket for more than 12 hours per fill. (He filled them a total of three times for a 30-hour weekend outside.)
